Take photos of everything you intend to move. Seriously, everything! When moving it is smart to take photos of what everything looked like prior to leaving your home. This precautionary measure will help you keep track of your possessions. In case of the rare occurrence that your boxes are smashed or your furniture is damaged; you will have pictures to verify the condition of the piece prior to leaving your home.

Photos are not just for damages, they can also be for loss. As a senior you have most likely accumulated a plethora of photos over the years that you plan on taking with you. This may be concerning, because if they are misplaced during the moving process, there is no replacing them. For this very reason, it is recommended that you take your photos with you on the trip to your new home, or you can also scan the photos and save them to a USB drive.

TIP 1: You can use websites such as Snapfish or Shutterfly to save scanned imaged of you photos for safe keeping that you can access at any time.

TIP 2: Taking photos is also a great idea for handwritten recipes, children’s report cards and artwork, etc. take photos of these items in case items are lost or damaged.

Take pictures of wiring to save you time. The last thing you want to do once you have settled into your new home is to try and figure out which plug goes where when hooking up your entertainment system or any other electronics you are bringing with you. Taking pictures of the wiring for each piece prior to disassembling them for the move will help you save time once you are ready to assemble again at your new home.

Keep in mind that you can take photos of the items you cherish but have to give away. Whether it be a large Precious Moments collection or porcelain dolls etc; those photos can be enlarged to hang on your wall anywhere in your new home; a great way to never forget your special collection!
