Happy Saint Patty’s Day!

Did you know that Saint Patrick’s Day began as a religious feast celebrating the patron Saint Patrick of Ireland? It also marks the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.  Today, Saint Patrick’s Day, is an International holiday celebrated by all focusing on Irish culture with parades, dancing, food and lots of green.

What else do you think of what you think of St. Patty’s Day??

          • Shamrocks – The shamrock originated from Saint Patrick who used the three leaf clover to explain the Holy Trinity to Irish Pagans.
          • Leprechauns – These little men did not originate from Ireland, they are an American tradition started in 1959 which came from a Disney movie.
          • Corned beef & cabbage, Irish soda bread and Shepherd’s pie – All are great Irish food that you should try today!
          • Irish Whiskey – It is very common to have a drink on St. Patty’s Day, especially a good bottle of whiskey such as Bushmills 21 Year Old Single Malt Whiskey and Jameson 18 Year Blended Irish Whiskey.

Many people celebrate the day by going to a St. Patty’s Day parade.  There are over 100 parades throughout the country, many of which can be found in Boston and New York.  People also celebrate by going to mass.  And lastly, people show their support for Saint Patrick by wearing green.  Babies have on their “My First St. Patty’s Day” shirts and bibs, boys wear their green Ninja Turtle shirts and young girls wear their pretty green dresses, teachers rock their crazy green classes and adults dig out their green scarves and sweaters for work.
